The Lakeland Lakers will head out to face off against the Central Noble Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lakeland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Lakeland was able to grind out a solid win over West Noble, taking the game 4-1. The Lakers haven't had any issues with the Chargers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Carson Mickem made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Mickem was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carter Crouse, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Central Noble). They walked away with an 8-4 win over West Noble last Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Like Lakeland, Central Noble also got a great game from a two-way player: Corbin Douglas. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Douglas was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double. Those runs marked the first that he has scored this season.
In other batting news, Parker Boots was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Landyn Champion, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Lakeland's record is now 10-3. As for Central Noble, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-5.
Central Noble's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lakeland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390.
