AA Piedmont recap Oct. 3, 2012
Magna Vista and Halifax County played the most hotly contested game in AA Piedmont this week, with Magna Vista eventually emerging with a 34-28 victory.
Tunstall made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,575 from 5,102. The improvement came about via a 35-7 victory over Staunton River last week.
The Trojans' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chris Buckner threw for 181 and three touchdowns and Evan Huffman had 87 yards receiving. On the ground Jacob Barnette chipped in 111 yards. Peyton Farrior helped Tunstall's passing attack out by catching two balls for 66 yards.
Tunstall's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Trojans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Buckner has thrown for 615 yards and eight touchdowns this season, while Farrior has seven catches for 194 yards. Barnette leads the league in rushing with 351 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bassett takes on Tunstall. As it stands, the Bengals are in third, while Buddy Brown's team is in second.
