The River Valley Dust Devils's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Madison Highland Prep Heat at 5:30 p.m. on December 11th. Hopefully River Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, River Valley came up short against Chino Valley and fell 41-31.
Despite their loss, River Valley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Cherity Gonzalez, who scored 16 points along with 6 steals, was perhaps the best of all. Kierra Clay was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 13 rebounds and 5 steals.
Meanwhile, Madison Highland Prep strolled past Mountainside with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 27-9.
Madison Highland Prep got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Madeline Leonard out in front who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Leonard has scored at least 25% of Madison Highland Prep's points. Another player making a difference was Elyse Tallbas, who scored 4 points along with 5 steals.
The losses dropped River Valley to 0-3 and Chino Valley to 1-3.
Monday's matchup is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: River Valley have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 18.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Madison Highland Prep struggles in that department as they've been even better at 27.3 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
