The Carlynton Cougars fell victim to the Fort Cherry Rangers''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 42-0 defeat at the hands of the Rangers. While losing is never fun, Carlynton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 493rd, while Fort Cherry is ranked 108th).
Fort Cherry was led to victory by Ethan Faletto and Matt Sieg. Faletto rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, while Sieg rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries. Another big playmaker for Fort Cherry was Shane Cornali, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Fort Cherry's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB nine times. Leading the way was Louis Ryan and his two sacks.
Carlynton's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.5 points per game. As for Fort Cherry, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Carlynton will head out on the road to face off against Bishop Canevin at 7:00 p.m. on October 28th. As for Fort Cherry, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Burgettstown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Burgettstown is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
