May River is 1-9 against Bluffton since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The May River Sharks will be playing at home against the Bluffton Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: May River has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while Bluffton will arrive with 17 straight victories.
May River's game on Tuesday was all tied up 23-23 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell to Colleton County 53-49.
Despite the loss, May River got a solid performance out of Ashleigh Williams, who scored ten points along with six rebounds. Williams continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brooke Dalton, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Even though they lost, May River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Colleton County only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
James Island typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Bluffton proved too difficult a challenge. They snuck past the Trojans with a 47-43 victory.
Bluffton had a senior duo take command as Tacoya Heyward dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds and Ja'laina Mosley scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Heyward has scored at least a third of Bluffton's points.
May River dropped their record down to 6-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Bluffton, their victory bumped their record up to 21-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: May River have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Bluffton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
