After flying high against the Rosedale Christian Academy Rosedale Panthers last Thursday, New Hope Academy came back down to earth. New Hope Academy fell 66-56 to Goretti on Friday. While losing is never fun, New Hope Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Goretti is ranked 23rd).
When it comes to explaining why New Hope Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is DJ Thomas. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points. Thomas hasn't dropped below 15 points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Uriah Augare-Deal, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.
New Hope Academy now has a losing record at 15-16. As for Goretti, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Hope Academy and Fairfax Christian will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Goretti, they will head out on the road to challenge Calvert Hall at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. Calvert Hall is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
