Basketball Recap: Everglades Takes a Loss

Everglades lost against Central back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Everglades Gators fell just short of the Central Rockets by a score of 52-50. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while the Rockets are ranked 44th).

Despite the loss, Everglades still got an impressive performance from Lance Bailey, Jr, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. That's the most boards Bailey, Jr has posted since back in February of 2024. Chris Payoutte was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Keri Foster continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Central, going 9 of 15 on his way to 22 points in addition to five assists and five boards. The game was Foster's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Willie Dye III, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Everglades dropped their record down to 10-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Central, their victory bumped their record up to 13-3.

Everglades has already played their next match, a 59-47 win against Flanagan on the 21st. As for Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-53 victory against Palmetto on the 21st.
