Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Oak Forest's Ninth in Last 11 Outings

Oak Forest came out on top against Hillcrest on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run second inning. The Bengals blew past the Hawks 13-0. The Bengals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.

Justin Gibbs made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Bryce Hoffman looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Oak Forest let Vince Weber and Kevin Sullivan run wild. Weber went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Sullivan went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Weber a new career-high. Shane Walsh also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Oak Forest hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Oak Forest has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Hillcrest, they dropped their record down to 2-10 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Oak Forest has already played their next match, a 10-9 defeat against Manteno on the 23rd. As for Hillcrest, they are taking a road trip to square off against Argo at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Argonauts will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight.
