Menomonie is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Holmen is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Mustangs will welcome the Vikings at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Menomonie took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Wausau East, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Lumberjacks on Friday. While the Mustangs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Cade Lamb looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Menomonie let Landon Middlestadt and Charlie Mikesell run wild. Middlestadt got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs, while Mikesell went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Mikesell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Mars, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Holmen never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over La Crosse Logan. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won four games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Aaron Ploszay tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Jude Anderson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Joe Meeter, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Holmen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Holmen has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Menomonie, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Menomonie has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Holmen struggles in that department as they've averaged .459. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
