Two dominant guards in Grace Holm and Bria Bench are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Douglas County West Falcon will head out on the road to take on the Fort Calhoun Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
Douglas County West suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Thursday. Their rough 62-40 loss to Yutan might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Douglas County West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while Yutan is ranked 33rd).
Despite their defeat, Douglas County West saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Addison Strong, who scored ten points, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Bella Zach, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Fort Calhoun waltzed into their contest on Thursday with four straight wins but they left with five. They blew past Mead 70-19 at home. Fort Calhoun has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 20 points or more this season.
Douglas County West's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Fort Calhoun, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
Douglas County West came out on top in a nail-biter against Fort Calhoun when the teams last played back in December of 2023, sneaking past 70-67. Will Douglas County West repeat their success, or does Fort Calhoun have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
