Vermilion dropped their record down to 9-6 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Firelands Falcons by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Sailors have suffered since April 3rd.

As for Firelands, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

For Firelands' part, not much got past Aidan Cummings, who gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Vermilion off the board. Cummings also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Falcons are undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 8-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Firelands saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Kline, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Vermilion does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Firelands, they will square off against North Ridgeville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Rangers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
