AAA Region 1 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Savannah's Joshua Grant rumbled for the longest rushing play in AAA Region 1 this season in his game against Tattnall County last week. Grant scampered for 85 yards on the play and finished with 78 on the day as his team lost to the Warriors.
Appling County was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. The Pirates defeated Johnson 28-21 earlier in the week.
Savannah's dynamic duo of Jovante Spivey and Trey Dillard proved tough for Tattnall County to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Spivey threw for 62 yards and Dillard had 52 yards receiving. Grant helped Savannah's passing attack out by catching two balls for 10 yards.
Corbin Mitchell was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 110 yards as the Atomsmashers lost to the Warriors. Shyheim Roberts also contributed to the rushing game with 42 yards on the ground.
Savannah's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bluejackets feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Spivey has thrown for 364 yards this season, while Jermaine Williams has four catches for 142 yards. Dillard leads the league in rushing with 283 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Tattnall County takes on Pierce County. The Warriors are currently in fourth, while the Bears are in second.
Tattnall County took down Savannah 35-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
