The Notre Dame Prep Saints will take on the Lutheran Lions in a tournament on Monday. Lutheran took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Notre Dame Prep, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with six losses in a row dating back to last season, Notre Dame Prep turned things around against Boulder Creek on Saturday. They walked away with a 9-6 win over the Jaguars.
Jace Terry was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Terry was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Shane Behnke looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.
Back at the plate, Owen Boeding was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Zac Albright was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Lutheran took on Willow Canyon on Saturday. Lutheran fell 11-8 to Willow Canyon.
Lutheran saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was James Chumrau, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another was Anthony Misch, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4.
Notre Dame Prep's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Lutheran, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Notre Dame Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lutheran struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
