Briarfield Academy put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's fifth consecutive shutout on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Riverdale Academy a 16-0 shutout. Considering Briarfield Academy has won nine games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jackson Thornton and Brock Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Thornton tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Johnson pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Thornton has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Thornton scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4, while Johnson went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave Thornton a new career-high.

In other batting news, Zach Lovell and Ryder Jones did most of the damage at the plate: Lovell went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Jones scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave Jones a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Benton, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Briarfield Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.

Briarfield Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for Riverdale Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Briarfield Academy is set to take on their familiar foe Tensas Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Riverdale Academy will square off against rival Claiborne Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
