Softball Recap: Floyd Central Triumphs

Floyd Central proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Pike County Central Hawks 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Jaguars have posted since April 23, 2024.

Whitley Hall spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Reagan Laferty was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubree Shelton, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Floyd Central now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Pike County Central, their loss was their first of the season and also makes their record 2-1.

Floyd Central wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 7-6 victory against Breathitt County on the 21st. As for Pike County Central, they have also already played their next contest, an 8-3 defeat against Russell on the 22nd.
