The North Jackson Chiefs will square off against the Madison County Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
North Jackson lost 8-2 to Plainview on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Chiefs in their meetings with the Bears: they've now lost four in a row.
Allie Benson was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Benson wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kayleigh Greenway, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madison County). They blew past New Hope 18-3 on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for the Tigers, who have now won seven matchups in a row.
Marion Gamble spent all four innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits.
At the plate, Allison Yeary was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Livy Huter, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Madison County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in nine consecutive games.
Madison County pushed their record up to 21-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for North Jackson, their loss dropped their record down to 10-16.
North Jackson might still be hurting after the 11-2 defeat they got from Madison County in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Chiefs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
