Last Tuesday, Clermont Northeastern was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 53-48 to Williamsburg. While losing is never fun, Clermont Northeastern can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 308th, while Williamsburg is ranked 118th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Connor Yeager, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Yeager is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Symon Mattes was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Fayetteville-Perry came tearing into Saturday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Riverview East Academy 51-48. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Fayetteville-Perry has posted yet this season.
Clermont Northeastern's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Fayetteville-Perry, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.
Clermont Northeastern and Fayetteville-Perry were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in January of 2023, but Clermont Northeastern came up empty-handed after a 43-42 loss.
