The North Moore Mustangs had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Cummings and snuck past 36-33. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Jakarey Gillis was a one-man wrecking crew for North Moore as he rushed for 206 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.8 yards per carry. Gillis was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Kolby Ritchie also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Cummings' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jonathan Paylor, who rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry, and Devin Witherspoon who rushed for 55 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries.
North Moore's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.0 points per game. As for Cummings, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-2.
North Moore will take on Chatham Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Chatham Central is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Cummings, they will head out on the road to face off against Southeast Alamance at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southeast Alamance knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Cummings likes a good challenge.
