After a string of 15 wins, the Olentangy Braves's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 51-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Olentangy Liberty. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Olentangy has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Olentangy saw an underclassman step up: Sydney Mobley dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 55% of Olentangy's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Kate Mosher was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Olentangy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Gigi Bower, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals for Olentangy Liberty. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bower has scored at least a third of Olentangy Liberty's points. Another player making a difference was Addy Pyles, who scored 11 points.
Olentangy's defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-1. As for Olentangy Liberty, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Olentangy and Olentangy Berlin will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Olentangy Berlin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 74th, while Olentangy is ranked fourth). As for Olentangy Liberty, they will head out on the road to take on Dublin Coffman at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Dublin Coffman is on a four-game streak of home wins, Olentangy Liberty a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
