Baseball Recap: Hubbard's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Hubbard had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against the Juarez Eagles on Monday as they made off with an 8-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Greyhounds, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Ricardo Romo and Thiago Monarrez made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Romo tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Monarrez struck out 14 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Romo also tossed no walks, which is notable because Hubbard is 6-3 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-8-1 otherwise. At bat, Romo went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Monarrez went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Monarrez a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaden Rodriguez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Hubbard's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1-1 (and 9-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Serafin Millan, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Hubbard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Juarez only posted an OBP of .367.

Hubbard now has a winning record of 12-11-1. As for Juarez, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Hubbard will challenge Varsity Opponent on Wednesday. Varsity Opponent has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.48 runs per game on average), something Hubbard will no doubt try to take advantage of. Juarez does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
