Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2025 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Kelvin Obot of
Fruitland is the 2025 MaxPreps Idaho High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound senior offensive tackle led the Grizzlies to a 10-1 record and 4A semifinal appearance.
Obot dominated on both sides of the ball, paving the way for an offense that averaged 42.4 points per game and 448.4 total yards per contest. Defensively, he racked up 75 tackles, 27 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks.
In a 34-12 win over Weiser, Obot posted 15 tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack. He closed the season with multiple tackles for loss in eight consecutive games.
Behind Obot's two-way play, Fruitland won 10 games for the first time since 2017.
Obot is Idaho's highest-rated recruit ever according to 247Sports composite rankings. He is regarded as the No. 27 player overall in the Class of 2026 and committed to Utah in July over 25 other offers.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
