The Wheeler Lions will face off against the Ledyard Colonels at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Monday, Wheeler got the win against Grasso Tech by a conclusive 14-3. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Mason Perkins was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April. Garett Lenihan was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Wheeler always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Ledyard had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 6-1 win over Putnam on Monday.
Cameron Weber made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Ledyard: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 5-11 otherwise. Weber was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
In other pitching news, Ethan Spinner looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Carson Luther, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Ledyard's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Owen Williams, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one RBI.
Wheeler has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Ledyard, their win bumped their record up to 7-12.
