Two dominant guards in Ava Miles and Asia Marie Dixon are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Valhalla Norsemen will head out to take on the El Cajon Valley Braves at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Valhalla is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by Monte Vista to the tune of 61-29 on Friday. The Norsemen pushed the score to 42-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Monarchs had little chance of recovering from.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Valhalla to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chanel Akka, who went 10 of 20 en route to 22 points in addition to seven boards and six steals. Another player making a difference was Miles, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten assists.
Valhalla was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for El Cajon Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They really took it to Mount Miguel for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-28 win. With that victory, the Braves brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.
Valhalla better keep an eye on Dixon. She was instrumental in El Cajon Valley's win, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Dixon also grabbed five steals, which is notable because El Cajon Valley is undefeated when she posts at least three steals, but 5-7 otherwise. Kiyara Millice was another key player, as she made all 5 shots she took for 11 points along with eight steals and six boards.
Valhalla's record is now 2-12. As for El Cajon Valley, their record now sits at 11-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Valhalla has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 52.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like El Cajon Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.9 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Valhalla strolled past El Cajon Valley when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a score of 44-29. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was El Cajon Valley's McKinley Morgan, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Valhalla still be able to contain Morgan? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
