After flying high against the Rocky Ford Meloneers last Friday, The Ellicott Thunderhawks came back down to earth. Ellicott took a serious blow against Colorado Springs Christian on Friday, falling 48-12. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Ellicott in their matchups with Colorado Springs Christian: they've now lost four in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Ellicott lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaylen Bonilla. Despite the final result, he picked up 87 receiving yards, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Bonilla was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards.
Colorado Springs Christian can attribute much of their success to Will Moore, who rushed for 149 yards and three touchdowns. Daniel Hoggard got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Colorado Springs Christian's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Michael Olas and his 2.5 sacks.
Ellicott has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Colorado Springs Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ellicott will take on Banning Lewis Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Banning Lewis Academy is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Colorado Springs Christian, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Peyton at 7:00 p.m.
