Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Alhambra). They simply couldn't be stopped on Monday as they easily beat the Concord Bears 87-44. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 425th, while the Bears are ranked 1001st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alhambra's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Torrance Avery led the charge by going 6-for-8 to rack up 13 points in addition to seven boards and six assists. That's the most assists Avery has posted since back in February of 2024. Vincente Taylor was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.
Avery wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Alhambra was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
When it comes to explaining why Concord lost, don't look at Mateo Ferolino. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with seven boards and four steals. Ferolino is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Leonidas Garcia, who put up ten points.
Alhambra has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-14 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points over those games. Concord is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-20.
Alhambra wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 76-34 victory against Quarry Lane on the 18th. Concord does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
