Murphy extended the longest winning streak in 1A Conference 1 this week by beating Cherokee, 51-12. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Murphy took down the Braves 51-12 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Bryce Clappsaddle threw for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was 12-16 with 0 interceptions.
Tyler Leek was the best wideout in the league this week as Hayesville defeated Rosman. Leek tallied 4 receptions for 91 yards. Dayrion Williams helped Hayesville's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 66 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Ray Smith and Spencer McCoy, Swain County has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Smith is tops in the league in passing with 644 yards, while McCoy has rushed for 722 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is the Yellowjackets' Leek, with 379 yards on 30 catches.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Robbinsville takes on second place Murphy. Robbinsville beat Andrews last week, while David Gentry's team bested Cherokee.
The Bulldogs' offense has recorded 182 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Black Knights have permitted only 114 on the year.
Next week's game between the Maroon Devils and Hayesville will feature an aerial matchup as Smith tests his arm against Winston Acosta's defensive ability.
