Bedford hasn't had much luck against Central recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Bisons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Dragons at 4:30 p.m. Bedford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Bedford's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over Juniata Valley. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bisons.
Emma Byers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leah Nee, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
Bedford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Central's offense. They fell 4-0 to Huntingdon on Wednesday. The Dragons' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Rhodes, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Norah Bechtel also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
The win got Bedford back to even at 6-6. As for Central, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bedford has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. It's a different story for Central, though, as they've only averaged .355. Will they be able to contain Bedford's hitters?
Bedford might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Central when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Bisons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
