Naches Valley fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against College Place on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 16-15. The Rangers' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row dating back to last season.
Eden Hayes and Denali St. Martin stepped up to the plate in a big way. Hayes scored three runs while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances, while St. Martin scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Donaldson, who scored four runs while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Selah, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. Everything went their way against Naches Valley on Thursday as Selah made off with a 16-4 victory. Considering the Vikings' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Aspin Grubenhoff made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Grubenhoff was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylee Gonzalez, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Laci Ross was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Selah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .617. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Naches Valley only posted an OBP of .394.
Selah now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Naches Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
