Higley proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by seven) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Mesquite Wildcats 2-1. Winning may never get old, but the Knights sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Ryan Birch looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, Higley's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ty Henze, who went 1-for-2 with one double. Jordan Heraldez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Higley's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Mesquite, they moved to 4-2 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
Coming up, Higley will challenge Basha at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mesquite, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Mesquite Wildcats challenge Gilbert Tigers at 11:30 p.m. on Monday.
