Sarasota is 9-1 against North Port since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Sailors will face off against the Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. Sarasota's pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so North Port's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Sarasota was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Manatee on Friday. The Sailors were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Hurricanes. The Sailors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by seven runs or more this season.
Tyler Sciesinski made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Sarasota got a massive performance out of Mady Pint, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Pint has posted since back in April of 2024. Gianna Williams also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Sarasota always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manatee only posted an OBP of .176.
Meanwhile, North Port entered their tilt with Manatee on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Hurricanes by a score of 13-8.
Cailinne Kelly was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Kaitlin Kohlenberg was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Sarasota has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for North Port, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Sarasota came out on top in a nail-biter against North Port when the teams last played two weeks ago, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sailors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
