The Maumee Panthers will take on the Eastwood Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Maumee's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Eastwood's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Maumee hadn't beaten Lake on the road since April 4, 2023 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. The Panthers walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Flyers. The Panthers have beaten the Flyers the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Flyers has come to flipping the script.
Meanwhile, while Eastwood put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Rossford. The Eagles blew past the Bulldogs 13-0.
Erich Hepler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Landon Weemes was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Eastwood's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-0-1 (and 7-9 when he doesn't). Easton Speck was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Eastwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. They are 5-1-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Maumee's win bumped their record up to 14-6. As for Eastwood, the victory got them back to even at 9-9-1.
Maumee was able to grind out a solid win over Eastwood in their previous matchup two weeks ago, winning 4-0. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
