Softball Recap: Havana Wins Going Away Against Deer Creek-Mackinaw

Havana barely beat Deer Creek-Mackinaw the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Havana blew past Deer Creek-Mackinaw 12-2 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Ducks in their matchups with the Chiefs: they've now won six in a row.

Maddie Howerter made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaydi Miller, who fired off three home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 4-for-4. Jenna Brooks was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Havana's win bumped their record up to 5-0-1. As for Deer Creek-Mackinaw, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Havana will welcome Rushville-Industry on April 7. As for Deer Creek-Mackinaw, they will face off against Tremont at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The contest will give Deer Creek-Mackinaw their first taste of in-conference action this season.
