The Manteo Redskins's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 63-41 walloping at the hands of Hertford County. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Manteo has suffered yet this season.
Manteo's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sydnee Ballance, who scored 26 points along with six rebounds. That was a full 63.4% of Manteo's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jazmine Cooper, who scored five points along with 20 rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Manteo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Hertford County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaliyah Mitchell, who dropped a triple-double on 28 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Mitchell has scored at least a third of Hertford County's points. Adarielle Townsell was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with eight steals and seven assists.
Manteo has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Hertford County, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-5.
Manteo will be playing in front of their home fans against Holmes at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Holmes has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. Hertford County on the road again on Tuesday and play against Currituck County at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd.
