Softball Game Preview: John Carroll Catholic Rams vs. Vero Beach Indians

John Carroll Catholic is 2-7 against Vero Beach since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. John Carroll Catholic will venture away from home to take on Vero Beach at 6:30 p.m. John Carroll Catholic will be strutting in after a win while Vero Beach will be coming in after a loss.

Last Saturday, John Carroll Catholic got the win against Franklin Regional by a conclusive 9-3. Considering the Rams have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Isabella Ramirez made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, John Carroll Catholic let Mikale Lemons and Briley Orton run wild. Lemons went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double, while Orton scored a run while going 1-for-3. Those three RBI gave Lemons a new career-high. Victoria O'Brien was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Vero Beach's offense. They fell 5-0 to Centennial last Thursday. The Indians haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

John Carroll Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. Vero Beach's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Everything went John Carroll Catholic's way against Vero Beach when the teams last played back in February, as John Carroll Catholic made off with a 7-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for John Carroll Catholic since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
