Key West extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday, bumping them up to 5-0. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over the NSU University Sharks. This was payback for the Conchs, who suffered a 5-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Auggy Davila made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Tyrone Cervantes looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.
Back at the plate, Kade Maltz was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base was his first of the season. Xavier Perez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for NSU University, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this matchup were averaging 3.2 runs allowed.
On NSU University's side, Evan Zalkind was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Key West didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 5-0 win against Sunset on the 27th. As for NSU University, they have also already played their next contest, a 4-3 victory against JC Bermudez Doral on the 26th.
