The Burroughs Bears will be taking part in a tournament against the Paso Robles Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Burroughs has six straight wins, Paso Robles has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Burroughs proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 14) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Crescenta Valley 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bears have posted since April 1st.
Valentina Reyes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Chloe Centeno was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Karlee Earl, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Paso Robles didn't have quite enough to beat Orcutt Academy on Thursday and fell 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Bearcats have lost by just one run.
Paso Robles also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Preslie Lyles gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Paso Robles saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashlynn Domingos, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Burroughs' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Paso Robles, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8-1.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Burroughs has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like Paso Robles struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
