The Clayton Comets will head out on the road to challenge the Corinth Holders Pirates at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Clayton has now lost 13 straight, leaving the team is hunting for their first win since November 28.
Last Tuesday, Clayton had to suffer through a rough 71-9 loss at the hands of Southeast Raleigh. While losing is never fun, Clayton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 494th, while Southeast Raleigh is ranked 102nd).
Meanwhile, Corinth Holders was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 56-51 to Willow Spring. Corinth Holders has struggled against Willow Spring recently, as their match on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Darla Lee, who scored 19 points. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Sizemore, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.
Clayton's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-14. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.2 points per game. As for Corinth Holders, their loss dropped their record down to 13-8.
Clayton was taken down by Corinth Holders 66-16 in their previous matchup back in January. Can Clayton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
