It was a good run, but the Calhoun Academy Cavaliers unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of Thomas Heyward Academy by a score of 51-49. Calhoun Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Thomas Heyward Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.
Despite the defeat, Calhoun Academy had strong showings from Colt Layton, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and five steals, and Connor Hayes, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists. The game was Hayes' seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Turner Houck, who scored four points.
Calhoun Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Calhoun Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Thomas Heyward Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
Calhoun Academy is on the road again on Friday and play against Jefferson Davis Academy at 12:00 p.m. on December 29th. Jefferson Davis Academy is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. Thomas Heyward Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Patrick Henry Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
