Basketball Recap: Kevin Gladney's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Overton over Memphis Central

Overton easily dispatched Kingsbury last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Overton Wolverines fell just short of the Memphis Central Warriors by a score of 61-59 on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wolverines of the 58-45 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Overton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kevin Gladney, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. Those 12 rebounds gave Gladney a new career-high. John Butler also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Damion Cox was his usual excellent self, putting up 32 points for Memphis Central. Cox's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jaylon Evans, who posted 15 points.

Overton dropped their record down to 8-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Memphis Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

Overton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-50 loss against Whitehaven on the 23rd. As for Memphis Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 76-75 defeat against White Station on the 24th.
