The Mainland Buccaneers's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Sebring Blue Streaks at 7:30 p.m. on November 24th. Both teams have allowed few points on average, (Mainland: 12, Sebring: 8) so any points scored will be well earned.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mainland walked away with it. They walked away with a 22-14 victory over the Raiders on Friday. Given Mainland's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Rockledge is ranked 66th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mainland can attribute much of their success to Dennis Murray jr., who threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Mainland's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Lawal Mccray (lj) and Dennis King 3rd who racked up four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Sebring had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.8 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They came out on top against Eau Gallie by a score of 21-12.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sebring to victory, but perhaps none more so than Travis Kerney, who rushed for 46 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 72 yards and a touchdown. Walsone Beaubrian was another key contributor, rushing for 49 yards and a touchdown.
Mainland's win bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Sebring, the last time they lost on the road was back back in September. Having now won three straight away games, they've pushed their record up to 9-2.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Mainland has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 188.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sebring struggles in that department as they've been even better at 193 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
