Two dominant signal callers in Xavier Barrera and Jorge Luna are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Eagle Pass Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the United Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. United took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Eagle Pass, who comes in off a win.
Eagle Pass lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Alexander, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's matchup. The Eagles really took it to the Bulldogs for the full four quarters, racking up a 34-3 victory. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Eagles had established a 24-point advantage.

Eagle Pass' win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Avery Embry, who rushed for 127 yards and one TD on only 12 carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 74 yards. Eagle Pass also got help from Sebastian Velasquez, who showed off his sure hands for 80 receiving yards.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Eagle Pass proved: they limited Alexander to a paltry 2.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Emmanuel Fernandez for the heroic effort on defense: he. Eagle Pass' run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.87 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 6.47 on average over their last five games.
Eagle Pass' defense didn't let Karlo Tenorio, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for 4.5 sacks. Ricardo Martinez refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Eagle Pass got some further help from Fernandez: he made 15 total tackles and snagged an interception.
Meanwhile, United suffered their closest loss since September 21, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Medina Valley by a score of 38-35. The Longhorns were up 28-14 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Eagle Pass will have to contain Colt Lozano as he made an impact in United's last game. He picked up 164 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Lozano's receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 108 receiving yards.
The win made it two in a row for Eagle Pass and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 10 points in those games. As for United, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-2.
Saturday's game might be decided in the trenches. Eagle Pass has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 176.2 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for United, though, as they've been averaging only 96.6 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Eagle Pass took a serious blow against United in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 37-10. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
