The Girard Yellowjackets will challenge the Saegertown Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Girard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Girard didn't have quite enough to beat Fairview and fell 7-6. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mason Kalicky and Aidan Maher stepped up to the plate in a big way. Kalicky went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Maher went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan St. Julien, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after a string of 13 wins, Saegertown's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They lost 10-3 to Lakeview. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Panthers, who until this contest were averaging 2.8 runs allowed.
Blake Burchill was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Girard's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Saegertown, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 11-1 and their overall record down to 13-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Girard has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Saegertown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Girard's way against Saegertown in their previous meeting back in May of 2021, as Girard made off with a 14-3 victory. Will the Yellowjackets repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
