The Fike Demons's 17-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Tuesday. They strolled past West Johnston with points to spare, taking the game 64-47. Fike's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Leading Fike to victory were William Monk and Dylan Skinner. Monk dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds, while Skinner scored 21 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. The contest was Monk's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kameron Barbee, who scored 12 points.
Despite the loss, West Johnston still got an impressive performance from Kameron Taylor, who scored 14 points. Taylor scored a full 29.8% of West Johnston's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Malaki Baker, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Fike's win ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-5. As for West Johnston, they bumped their record down to 3-5 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Fike won't have much time to rest: their next game is against SouthWest Edgecombe at 7:30 p.m. on December 13th. SouthWest Edgecombe is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58 points per game. West Johnston will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South Garner at 11:30 a.m. on December 27th.
