Benson is 8-2 against Morenci since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Bobcats will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Wednesday, Benson got the win against St. Augustine Catholic by a conclusive 14-2. The win continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won five in a row.
Mandy Watson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Watson was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Benson got a massive performance out of Millie Kellogg, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sadie Webb, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Benson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They are 8-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Morenci never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on Pima with a sharp 15-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Like Benson, Morenci also got a great game from a two-way player: Cameryn Woodall. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Woodall has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Tiara Jones was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Jaliyah Hernandez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
The win got Benson back to even at 12-12. As for Morenci, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Benson hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Morenci struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Benson might still be hurting after the 17-2 loss they got from Morenci in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Bobcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
