This season hasn't been kind to the Magnolia Sentinels, who are still winless after their fifth game. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 47-46 to Samueli Academy. Magnolia was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Samueli Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Samueli Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Julian Chanelo, who scored 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Ordaz, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Magnolia's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Samueli Academy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-2.
Magnolia will head out on the road to face off against Saddleback at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Saddleback has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Samueli Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Coastal Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Coastal Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
