The Evergreen Wolverines won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Monday. They were beaten by Renton 104-67. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (62), Evergreen still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why Evergreen lost, one person who can't be blamed is Matthew Fiso. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points. Leebaan Sami was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
It was another big night for Dennis Johnson III, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 12 rebounds for Renton. Johnson III is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Marques Ili-Meneese, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
Evergreen now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Renton, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evergreen will square off against the RedHawks at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Sammamish's favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home while the Wolverines have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. As for Renton, they will face off against the Pirates at 8:15 p.m. on Friday. Highline will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while the Red Hawks are ranked 61st).
