After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Chapin, the Canutillo Eagles were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Jefferson 74-34 on the road. Given Canutillo's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 409th, while Jefferson is ranked 1463rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Austin Bonilla had a dynamite game for Canutillo, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bonilla has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ezekiel Montoya, who scored six points along with two steals.
Canutillo is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. As for Jefferson, they bumped their record down to 3-19 with that loss, which was their eighth straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canutillo will square off against El Paso at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Jefferson, they will head out on the road to challenge Chapin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
