The Rise Academy Guardians pushed their score all the way to 72 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 77-72 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lanham Christian. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Thursday (60), Rise Academy still had to take the loss.
Several Guardians players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nathaniel Seaborne, who scored 23 points. The match was Seaborne's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Devonte Atkins, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Rise Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season. As for Lanham Christian, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rise Academy will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against St. Michael the Archangel at 12:00 p.m. on January 9th. St. Michael the Archangel will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Lanham Christian and Southern Maryland Christian Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Southern Maryland Christian Academy has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 2.
