Softball Recap: Independence Snags Third Victory in Last Four Games

Independence came out on top against Ridgeview on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Falcons' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wolf Pack an 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Destiny Serna made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Allison Gutierrez was excellent, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Daisy Martinez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Independence has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Ridgeview, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-10-1.

Independence wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 1-0 loss against Centennial on the 12th. As for Ridgeview, they have also already played their next contest, a 10-0 defeat against Fowler on the 12th.
