Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maclay). They managed a 76-70 victory over the Marianna Bulldogs on Saturday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Marauders' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 113th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Maclay to victory, but perhaps none more so than Avery Coffin, who posted 13 points and five assists. Those five assists gave Coffin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nash Beshears, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 21 points.
Coffin wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Maclay was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Despite the loss, Marianna still got an impressive performance from Mason Mobley, who went 8 for 18 en route to 21 points and five boards. Mobley has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Kenyon Holden was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.
The victory (which was Maclay's third in a row) raised their record to 9-13. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Marianna, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-4.
